A Guide to Canon Cameras: The Compact and Travel EditionMarc Ehrenbold
Thinking about using Canon cameras for your next project? Here’s all the basic info that you need.
Canon Inc is a multi- national brand that is founded and headquartered in Japan specialising in the manufacture of optical and imaging products. They make cameras, camcorders, printers, photocopiers, scanners, binoculars, lenses and more. Canon’s first SLR prototype called Kwanon was first presented in 1933. In 1984, they started production and distribution of digital cameras with the RC series. This was subsequently followed by the Power Shot and Digital Ixus.
Canon makes a range of cameras from the compact point- and- shoot types to professional high-end DSLRs. The number of camera models available can easily get you confused, so here’s an easy guide to cameras Canon has to offer.
- Canon Ixus – The Canon Ixus is a great choice for the casual photographer looking for an easy-to-use, no- rocket-science, camera for point- and- shoot action. A more experienced photographer will be able to tell if there are some missing features and maybe a few imperfections in the image quality. But if you’re only looking to have an everyday camera to take photos of friends or for travel, this is a great choice for you.
- Canon PowerShot D30 Waterproof Camera – This compact camera is great for the more adventurous traveler. It’s waterproof to up to 25m deep – which is a really great feature for a consumer camera that does not require a specialized housing. An added plus is that it can survive a 2m drop and has a built in GPS to add location information to your photos.
- Canon PowerShot N and N100 – Canon’s N model of the Powershot series features a fun design that has a square-shaped body that you can put any way up and a screen that you can flip up and doubles as a camera stand. While it is not meant to replace your phone or a DSLR, it is a take-anywhere type of camera that is easy to use and can fit in your pocket, but can produce really good, high quality photos for its type. The N100 is a newer model in a rectangular shape. Its more conventional design is made for fun and social photography. It has a second lens at the back of the camera that allows you to take a photo and a selfie at the same time.
