Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and RED’s Weapon 8K
In a recent press conference, Marvel had announced that the sequel to their summer blockbuster film Guardians of the Galaxy will be the first full-length movie to be shot using the cutting-edge Weapon 8K.
RED’s Weapon camera system equipped with the 8K RED Dragon sensor went through heavy-duty testing before Marvel finally decided to use the camera for the highly-anticipated film.
President of RED Digital Cinema Jarred Land has expressed his enthusiasm at Marvel and its production crew to be the first to bank on the Weapon 8K’s state-of-the-art capabilities.
“Given the enormous success of the first movie, we know first-hand how critical their team was in selecting a camera for the second installment. We consider this a huge affirmation that RED’s investment in cutting-edge technology continues to be justified.”
Marvel representatives share the same excitement, saying that –
“We are all hugely excited to be shooting the next Guardians of the Galaxy on the new WEAPON 8K. This is my third collaboration with RED, having previously shot with the RED Epic in Prometheus and the RED Epic Dragon on Tarzan. The large sensor size and compact size open up a whole range of new creative possibilities.”
– Nik Korda, Executive Producer
The Weapon 8K boasts the amalgamation of the Weapon’s compact and intuitive features camera body powered by RED’s most powerful camera sensor to date with its dynamic range and unparalleled color science.
The Weapon 8K can shoot images in glorious 8K at an unfaltering 75 fps, and 6K at 100 fps, or scale down to 4K running at 150 fps, all in REDCODE RAW format.
Production for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 will start early this year and is expected to hit theaters by July 28th, 2017.
