Ridley Scott Plans Trio of Biblical EpicsMarc Ehrenbold
Movie enthusiasts are in line for a great series of biblical blockbusters, as English film director and producer Sir Ridley Scott unravels a trio of movies for the upcoming months.
The director’s first biblical venture will be Exodus: God and Kings, which casts British actor Christian Bale as a warlike Moses battling his boyhood friend, the Egyptian pharaoh Rhamses, played by Joel Edgerton.

The visual spectacle will also feature an impressive supporting cast such as US Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley and John Turturro. The film will be followed by another biblical instalment, the battle between Old Testament hero King David and the giant Goliath and a television movie depicting the killing of Jesus, similar to Mel Gibson’s “Passion of the Christ”.
Because Scott is already developing three other movies–a sequel to Prometheus, The Martian and another about football concussions–it’s doubtful he will direct it. Scott also directed the 2005 crusader story, “Kingdom of Heaven” and at that time he said:
“I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination who call it the will of God . I have seen too much religion in the eyes of murderers”.
“I am not fighting another holy war here, I am trying to get across the fact that not everyone in the west is a good guy and not all Muslims are bad. The tragedy is that we still have a lack of understanding between us and it is 900 years since the crusades” says Scott.
Exodus, which is scheduled for release on December 20, follows a series of successful biblical movies including Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, starring Russell Crowe, which has grossed $350 million worldwide, and Fox’s Son of God.
