Under Milk Wood: UK’s bet for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars
BAFTA has chosen Kevin Allen’s Under Milk Wood as the UK’s official entry to the 88th Academy awards for Best Foreign Language Film to be held on February 2016.
Directed by Kevin Allen, Under Milk Wood (Dan y Wenallt) is the critically-acclaimed adaptation of Dylan Thomas’ 1954 classic radio play. The film stars Rhys Ifans, who plays the role of Captain Cat and the First Voice. Charlotte Church is Rosie Probert, Captain Cat’s lost love who haunts him in his dreams.
The film is also a tribute to Dylan Thomas’ centenary celebration.
Set in a fictional fishing town of Llareggub (bugger all) Under Milk Wood weaves a surreal and erotic story fuelled by dreams of the townspeople as.narrated by the visually impaired Captain Cat.
Director Kevin Allen was both thankful and thrilled upon learning that BAFTA had picked Under Milk Wood as a contender for the Best Film in a Foreign Language category in the upcoming Oscars.
